THE PUBLIC are being asked to be vigilant after a woman was threatened with a knife during a robbery in Bridgwater.

Police say the incident happened at around 10.45pm on Thursday, January 10, when two women were walking down Piggy Lane and were approached by two men.

A police spokesman said: “One of the women was threatened with a knife while the men attempted to take one of their handbags. “This was unsuccessful and the two men left on bicycles through Piggy Street and onto Redgate Street.”

Police are trying to trace two people, possibly female, who the victims saw enter the lane walking a dog from the Clarks Road/Redgate Street direction.

The spokesman added: “The incident was reported to us and two men, aged 24 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of robbery within an hour of the incident. They have been released on bail while we conduct further enquiries.”
