SIGN language sessions for children have been launched at Nether Stowey Children’s Centre.
A weekly drop-in session, hosted by independent teaching group, Tiny Signers, launched this month and will be held at the centre every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
The classes, which utilise puppets, stories and music, cater for children aged from birth to five years and for children with additional needs from birth to five plus.
Debra Buller, who runs the class, said: “Many of us gesture to reinforce what we are saying often unconsciously.
“The ability to gesture in young children often comes before vocal ability develops and using signing does not replace or delay speech - it supports the spoken language children are beginning to develop.”
