Roundabout work to begin in June as part of Bridgwater Hospital plans
5:00pm Friday 11th January 2013 in News
Work on the Bath Road/Bower Lane junction later this year will support the development of the new Bridgwater Hospital.
WORK is scheduled to begin in early June on a new roundabout at the Bath Road/Bower Lane junction, as part of the Bridgwater Hospital development.
The work is expected to take nearly three months but Bath Road will remain open throughout, with traffic control rather than a road closure in place.
The hospital could welcome its first patients in the autumn of 2014. Cllr Hall said: “These road improvements, together with the work at Crandon Bridge (on the A39) and the A38 will make a big difference to traffic in that part of town.”

This will make it easier to exit Bower estate in the morning, to make it even better why don't SDC install roundabouts at the other end of Bower Lane, both ends of Parkway and at the Wills Road/ Taunton Road junctions as well, that will help the traffic move a bit better.
Then give the pig ignorant drivers who block off road exits because they are too busy using their phones to check on facebook and twitter (what an appropriate name!) some driving lessons and we will all be better off

Drivers constantly block these roundabouts and use them as though they are a t-junctions not roundabouts, while others use stockmoor as a rat run to avoid queues adding to the misery of residents.

Thank goodness the Tory Admin, managed to secure the funding to enable this New Hospital to be built albeit delayed by 18 Months.
I do not recall, any discussions, re a roundabout on Bath Rd itself!!, there were then discussions as to putting a Traffic Controlled T Junction @ Bath Rd with Bower, and a Round-a-Bout at the Access And Egress Point, with the Bower Lane itself. !!
I would like this confirmed, as I have not seen the Plans as they were presented to SDC. Perhaps the Reporter who wrote this piece could clarify this. As it will mean perhaps 2 Roundabouts, which could work!!

"Construction of a new roundabout on A39/Bower Lane junction to replace the existing ghost island right turn Lane. Construction includes some earthworks, drainage, carriageway widening/overlay of existing, accommodation works, footways, crossing points, bus stop pull-ins, traffic signs and road markings, street lighting, some grass ** Unrestricted two way traffic will be maintained on the A39 on weekdays 07.30 ¿ 09.30 and 15.30 ¿ 18.30."
Now there is no Junction with Bower Lane on the A39...the Junction is with Whitfield Road. Bower Lane runs off of Whitfield Road. Its a common error in all fairness but according to the above the roundabout is defo on the A39 / Whitfield Rd Junction.
