A NEW £4.9million six-lane swimming pool could be built in Bridgwater to replace the Sedgemoor Splash as part of the Northgate regeneration project, it has just been announced.

Sedgemoor District Council's executive will be asked next Wednesday to approve one of two plans for Northgate, both of which include demolishing the Splash and building a new public pool on the Chilton Trinity Technology College site.

One of the options could see a new 7,900sq metre supermarket or other major retail store built in Northgate, while the other could see a mix of houses, offices and small shops.

Oh, so the 4.2million pound (to build... god knows how much has gone on it by now) Splash is being torn down is it? Well maybe someone should have thought more about the decision to tear down the Lido instead of paying for it's refurbishment. That was and still is the biggest travesty I have had the displeasure to witness. The greedy idiot planners are to blame, they don't see the long game. And Bridgy is already too full of supermarkets, charity shops and 'short term' cheapo shops.

I really hope the new pool goes ahead as I would definitely be a regular user - excellent choice of site. However, I don't want the splash demolishing unless a replacement pool is built - the Splash isn't ideal but at least you can get a swim in Bridgwater!

I was born in Bridgwater and remember the Lido being built. They wanted to put a roof on it but old Mr. Coates nixed it. If you build a new pool, put a roof on it, otherwise it will only be useable for a few months of the year.

Will the proposed new pool be as accommodating as Splash is for all groups who use the pool now: Besides normal swimmers will there still be aqua aerobic sessions 4 times a week, mother and toddler groups and disabled swimmers, how are they to use a pool unless it has a beach area that one can walk into the water confidently, What about lunch time swimmers Chiltern is not so convenient for those who pop out in 1 hour for a keep fit swim. I feel that once the pool goes to a school campus then it will not leave much room for Joe public to use the facilities.
