Family to join Brazil plane search

THE mother and son of a North Petherton man missing after a plane vanished off the Brazilian coast are flying to South America to join the search for him.

A light aircraft carrying Nigel Hodges, 52, and three other Britons, lost contact with air traffic controllers shortly before it was due to land in the north east coastal city of Ilheus on Friday night.

Mr Hodges, a finance director and father-of-four, had travelled to Brazil to explore a property development opportunity with colleagues.

His son Elliot, 25, told the Mercury today (Monday): "We're trying to remain positive and we are doing ok at the moment.

"The first few hours were a real shock but since then we've been keeping busy.

"We've been in constant contact with the Foreign Office, speaking to them every two to three hours."

A Foreign Office spokesman told the Mercury that a land and air search for the aircraft had resumed at 6am local time today, 10am British time.

Elliot Hodges, who now lives in Surrey, had returned to the family home in North Petherton for the Bank Holiday weekend when he heard the news.

He and his mother Maureen, and Mr Hodges' other two sons and a daughter, as well as other relatives, are currently in North Petherton waiting to hear news from the authorities.

Elliot and Maureen Hodges will travel to Brazil this week with the families of the other three missing Britons, Alan Kempson, Sean Woodall and Ricky Every.

I

worked with both Nigel and Maureen(Mo) from 1975. Saw their romance blossom into marriage. I made her wedding dress. What a lovely couple and family. Thinking of them both and their family.
