'Missing' defender Govier gets warning from Town boss

BRIDGWATER Town's co-manager Craig Laird has this message for "missing" defender Piers Govier: "You're not going anywhere"

The highly-rated former Plymouth Argyle player, the only Town man with a contract, has been linked with Tiverton, who wanted to sign him last summer.

He was Town's 2006-07 first-team players' player and supporters' player of the year, but lost his place in the centre of the defence during the season just ended after he had gone on a two-week holiday to South Africa.

During the last weeks of the season, he did not turn up for training and Laird has been unable to contact him.

Laird said: "We gave him a contract when Tiverton wanted him last year because he wanted some security.

"There is also an option for a second year and, because he is contracted to us, he can't sign for anyone else.

"I've done enough to try and make contact, now it's up to him. No one is bigger than the club and he's got to do what everyone else does: knuckle down and battle to win his place back."

Laird added: "I saw Tiverton manager Martyn Rogers at the Willand-Frome match on Saturday and he said that he hadn't had any contact with Piers at all since last summer. I believe him"
