Bridgwater shop owner rues another act of vandalism
 |
| David Coles, owner of the Past and Present furniture shop, experienced another act of vandalism to his store over the weekend |
A DISGRUNTLED Bridgwater shop owner has been left counting the cost of another act of vandalism on his store over the weekend.
David Coles, owner of the Past and Present furniture shop on Monmouth Street, discovered the damage before opening for business on Saturday morning.
He has already shelled out £250 to replace the glass but over the past 12 years, repairs from eight separate vandal attacks have cost him more than £5,000.
David believes would-be thieves made an unsuccessful attempt to steal contents from the shop front.
He said: "It looks as if the vandals tried to pull the display items through a hole in the glass but may have been disturbed.
"In the past, I have had the contents of the shop window completely cleared which proved very costly. I was lucky this time but it is still very irritating."
Despite the seven previous incidents, David does not believe he is being singled out by vandals, even though neighbouring shops have not suffered as much trouble as Past and Present.
He said: "The shop window is quite inviting to potential thieves. Before this recent attempt, a pair of chrome stools were featured in the shop front and could have enticed someone to take them.
"Sometimes I think to myself 'why do I bother' and I have thought about moving in the past but if the town is handled in the right way, Bridgwater is going places."
Police say they are investigating the incident.
