A PACKED musical programme is coming to Bridgwater as part of the London 2012 Festival’s closing celebrations.
Bridgwater Town Council will hold a bandstand marathon event that will see the Blake Gardens come alive with music on Sunday, September 9, marking the end of the festival and an amazing summer of sport and culture on the final day of the Paralympic Games.
The free event will showcase the best in Somerset talent and a musical programme including bands, groups, choirs and solo musicians.
The Blake Gardens performance will be one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking place simultaneously in bandstands and outdoor spaces across the UK, making up the nationwide Bandstand Marathon.
Ruth Mackenzie, director of the London 2012 Festival, said: “The Bandstand Marathon is encouraging local music groups to showcase their talents and be part of the London 2012 Festival.
“I am proud we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in creating a cultural legacy post-London 2012.”
The event will be brought to Bridgwater by not-for-profit arts organisation Superact and Making Music. It takes place from 1pm to 5pm.
