Communicators back in Burnham

3:53pm Thursday 4th March 2010

DIG out those Dr Martens - goodtime Burnham ska band The Communicators are getting ready for a top night at The Railway Hotel on Saturday.

Originally formed as a covers band, the town's two-tone favourites have grown into a highly sought-after outfit with their own album and more in the pipeline.

Lead singer Mitch spoke to the Weekly News ahead of the gig. He said: “When we first started, we thought we'd be trawling through pubs playing covers music. Now, we've released our own album, will be touring with Madness and have played Glastonbury festival.

“The set at the festival last year was ram packed and that led to Emily Eavis asking us back again this year.”

While they still play crowd favourites from Madness, The Specials and Bad Manners, The Comms have extended their creativity into original tracks.

Keeping the upbeat brass sounds ska has become known for, the band have already successfully released their first album Care in the Communicators, and are already planning a second - Frankie Howerd's Slippers.

Mitch said: “We like to have fun, even with our album titles! The music can be a bit Carry On, and there is a lot of humour in the songs. We have a laugh doing it and hope others have good fun watching and dancing along.”

The event starts at 9pm. Tickets are £3.50 from the Railway on 01278-784828.
