IT'S a night guaranteed to put the spooks into books.

Coleridge Cottage in Nether Stowey is hosting a Halloween candlelight reading of two of the world's scariest novels.

Writer in residence Rose Collis will read from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and The Vampyre by John Polidori.

The cottage, where Coleridge wrote some of his greatest works, will be lit by candle and fire light to evoke the atmosphere of Coleridge’s time while Rose promises to give enough goosebumps to scare even the Adams family.

The event, on October 31, is part of the Writing Places project, a partnership project between The National Trust, Literature Works and The Poetry Archive aimed at encouraging public engagement with creative reading and writing.

Project Manager Kate Campbell said: "We are delighted that Coleridge Cottage is providing this unique event as part of Writing Places.

"The project is about getting everyone and anyone in to these literary homes to experience something of what it must have been like when writers like Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote their masterpieces."

The Twilight Tales event runs from 6.30pm until 9.30pm and costs £5. Places can be booked by ringing Coleridge Cottage directly on 01278 732662.
