FIVE times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jim Causley is a singer/accordionist who is passionate about traditional song and particularly those from his native Devon.

This year sees the release of a new album, Forgotten Kingdom, which is somewhat of a departure and a new beginning as its Jim’s first album of entirely self-penned material.

It will showcase him not just as a fine traditional singer and musician, not only as an interpreter of others people’s words but as a fine wordsmith in his own right.

Jim will be singing from the album later this month at the Bridgwater Arts Centre. You can expect to hear a few re-workings of traditional tales as well as songs exploring previously untold stories of his native West Country.

These were inspired by projects he has been involved in during the past few years such as a collaboration with artist Simon Pope and Exeter’s Spacex Gallery which focused on the tin mining heritage of Devon and produced the song Pride of the Moor.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Jim Causley concert without a few light-hearted numbers to offset the balance.

Support on the night comes from local folk singer songwriter, Sam Patten.
