AGATHA Christie’s classic thriller The Mousetrap is coming to The Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare.

The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of British theatre with over 25,000 performances.

The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover to their horror that there is a murderer in their midst.

Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and motive of the killer are revealed.

In her inimitable style, Christie created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks at every turn.

Mark Thompson, of The Playhouse, said: “I’m delighted to announce the first large-scale production direct from London’s West End here at The Playhouse Theatre.

“The Mousetrap is not only one of the most fantastic productions ever created, but also the most iconic, having opened in London’s West End in 1952, cementing its position as the longest running show in the history of British theatre.

“As the first large-scale production here at The Playhouse I couldn’t think of a better production to lead our town’s home of live entertainment to the next level.

“The show has been loved by generations of people for over 62 years and is a fantastic opportunity to not only bring it to our town but also introduce new generations to one of Christie’s most celebrated works”

Performances run from Monday to Sunday July 13-19, and tickets cost £23.50- £28.50 from the box office on 01934-645544 or at www.theplayhouse.co.uk
