THE Great Cranes of the Somerset Levels, captured in the crafts of local artists and craftspeople, will be among the displays and demonstrations of arts and crafts at the Avalon Marshes Centre near Westhay.

The Somerset Crafts group are taking part in The Somerset Art Weeks Open Studios event which runs until October 5, with three of its members are being featured during the two weeks of this popular celebration of the visual arts.

Leigh Coombes, Bridgwater, will be demonstrating her craft as a potter and Viv White, Mark, will be showing insights into her skills as a textile artist.

As usual a percentage of every sale at the gallery goes to support local conservation work; the links with the Great Crane Project can be seen in some of Viv's beautiful designs.

The third member is veteran water colourist Michael Cooper, Ashcott, who will be at the centre with his works of art and to meet the visitors and discuss his painting and talk about his working methods.

A drop-in workshop suitable for all ages will be held on September 28, where visitors will be creating the Cranes in willows and the three featured members will be joined by others from their group for a larger demonstrations weekend on October 4 and October 5.

The gallery will be open every day from 11am-6pm demonstrations and workshops will be taking place daily at various times.
