BOOGIE Nights was the latest cabaret night presented by Marketeers Carnival Club at Chilton Trinity College on Saturday September 13.

Gerrie, the female vocalist, started the night with a Shania Twain Country and Western number, but soon showed her versatility with a spot-on version of Alison Moyet’s ‘All Cried Out’, showing her professionalism with friendly chat between varied numbers made famous by Boyzone, the Bee Gees and Celine Dion’s ‘Immortality’.

Bringing her time on stage to an end, she went out on a high with Barbara Streisand’s showstopper ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’.

There was a sharp intake of breath around the room as larger than life illusionist Jimmy Carlo appeared on stage in a striking black and white outfit.

His comedy magic act relied heavily on his humorous interpretation rather than amazing tricks, but with the help of willing volunteers from the audience he held everyone’s attention. Jimmy used a lot of visual props to adorn his volunteers and kept a great relationship with the audience.

You really don’t want to know what happened to the balloon at the end of his act – the mind boggles.

After everyone was refreshed the second half brought compere Noel Brodie to the main stage. His bubbly personality started his act off well with amusing stories, jokes and observations. Next the band took their places on stage.

The usual great enthusiastic atmosphere buzzed when the amazing Souled Out started playing.
The six-piece band included two guitarists, a drummer, a sax player and a trumpeter, fronted by a cute Joey Essex lookalike singer.

The Motown band brought the dancers in the crowd down to share the space in front of the stage and strut their stuff to some infectious music, including ‘Sex Machine’ by James Brown, ‘Midnight Hour’ by Wilson Picket, Hold on I’m Coming by Sam and Dave, and Shake a Tailfeather by Ray Charles.

Their funky grooves and soulful music suited all generations of music lovers, and they knew exactly how to get people on their feet to bring another fabulous evening’s entertainment to a close.

The next date on Marketeers CC’s calendar is their Christmas Showtime on Saturday, December 13, which will be sure to get you in the mood for the festivities.
