ONE of Bridgwater’s punk-pop legends are to play a Canadian festival after winning the UK final of the global Planetrox music competition.

Homegrown punk-pop band The Splash will fly out to the Envol Et Macadam festival in Quebec next month after judges voted unanimously in their favour at the London-based contest.

The trio – Kye Stacey on drums and guitarists Stephen ‘Ken’ Pitman and Matt Beacham – have been together for three years.

The band said: “We're ridiculously happy and so thankful to everyone who's supported us along the way.

“Opportunities like this don’t come along every day and we can't believe in we'll be playing to a massive crowd in Canada. We've never done anything but have fun and play songs we love and now we'll get to do that in a different country!”

With influences spanning 4ft Fingers, The Remnants, Blink 182 and Less Than Jake, The Splash are (in their own words) three men “making bad jokes and fun music”.

Their sound is available to sample on music streaming service Spotify and to download on iTunes and Bandcamp.
