EASTER Monday afternoon saw the launch of a series of organ recitals sponsored by the Somerset Organists’ and Choirmasters’ Association in aid of the Somerset Flood Relief Fund.

Beginning with a recital in the Parish Church of St Mary, in Bridgwater, there are a further 18 concerts lined up in various churches across the county between now and the end of August.

This first concert was given by two well-known local organists, John Bodiley and Andrew Hinkley.

Their programme offered a balanced mixture of joyous and reflective music enabling the wonderful contrasts in timbre of the Willis organ to be shown off to great effect.

The 40-minute recital was enjoyed by an appreciative audience and followed with tea and cake.

There is no charge for these concerts, but the retiring collections will go to help those victims of the winter flooding and the excellent amount of £292.38 raised at this first concert has got the “Wind & Wave” series off to a great start.

Thank you and congratulations to those who made the concert a success - do go along and attend one of these concerts if you can.

They are a great way to explore a different church, hear their organ, meet new people and help this very worthy cause.
