IS a classical music concert at 11am on a Sunday something you’d never consider? Think again.

From Friday, March 28, the London Haydn Quartet, Carnegie Hall concert players, will play away for the weekend at Taunton’s Castle Hotel.

Catherine Manson and Michael Gurevich on violin, James Boyd on viola and cellist Jonathan Manson comprise the über-respected ensemble.

‘Historically-informed’ classical performances are their shtick, playing compositions by Beethoven’s former tutor with gut strings and classical bows.

For the first concert on Friday at 6pm, they will play Haydn’s String Quartet in G, Op.76 No.1, Beethoven’s String Quartet in B flat, Op.18 No.6, and String Quartet in C minor, Op.18 No.4.

Saturday March 29’s 11am concert is sold out, but seats are still available for 6pm. They will play Beethoven’s String Quartet in F, Op.18 No.1, Haydn’s String Quartet in D minor, Op.76 No.2 ‘Fifths’, and Beethoven’s String Quartet in A, Op.18 No.5.

At 11am on Sunday, you can hear the connoisseurs play Haydn’s String Quartet in D, Op.76 No.5, and his String Quartet in B flat, Op.76 No.4 ‘Sunrise’, followed by Beethoven’s String Quartet in G, Op.18 No.2.

Tickets cost £24 for morning concerts and £25 for evening concerts on 01823-328303 or email events@the-castle-hotel.com
