FROSTY and funny comedy, The Snow Queen, comes to Bridgwater’s Town Hall on Friday and the cast is promising a dazzling production.

Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s tale has been given a Bridgwater Pantomime Society makeover.

The large cast of 12 principal actors, two cameo parts, 19 senior chorus members, nine junior chorus members and 14 dancers, have all been busy making sure everything is pitch perfect for opening night.

DANIELLE MORRIS caught up with Margaret Robinson who plays the Snow Queen.

She said: “Everything has been going great. We had our final rehearsals and our dress rehearsals are taking place this Wednesday and Thursday before the opening night on Friday.

“I am looking forward to it, but I think I’ll be more excited once we get Friday over and done with – there are always those first night nerves.”

This is Margaret and her husband Keith’s 40th pantomime – not only do they star in the show but they have written the piece along with their nephew Richard Porter.

But how do they keep things fresh?

Margaret said: “We do the same shows only once every ten years so, by then, you have a completely whole new set of audience and ages.

“We try and make it as relevant as possible, so we might look back at what has happened in the year and include that, for example.”

The story follows the Snow Queen and her sister, the Summer Queen.

The Snow Queen is a bit of a ‘baddy’, but not evil, with the Summer Queen as the good fairy.

The twist is the inclusion of Jack Frost, who’s trying to take over the Ice Kingdom from the Snow Queen.

Margaret is more than used to playing the leading lady, but this is her first time portraying a ‘baddy’.

She explained how she was finding it: “I am used to playing the fairy godmother or a good character, so this was different for me but it has been a lot of fun and it is nice to try something different.”

Tickets are selling out fast, especially for the matinee, so those wanting to see the show are urged to get their skates on.

They are available at the Carnival Centre until Thursday where they will then be available from the Town Hall.

The panto runs from Friday, January 24, to Saturday, February 1, excluding January 27, and tickets are £10/£8 children and OAPs on 07939-926449
