A DARK and frosty Victorian fairytale has been given a Bridgwater Pantomime Society makeover in a forthcoming family show.
Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen has been transformed into a quirky comedy by the players.
The cast is promising a dazzling production for Bridgwater Town Hall, with its 12 principal actors, two cameo parts, 19 senior chorus members, nine junior chorus members and 14 dancers.
The society’s take is a three-way partnership between Margaret and Keith Robinson and Richard Porter, all of whom have been members for around 30 years.
Setting the scene, Margaret said: “It opens with the Snow Queen and the Summer Queen, who are sisters. The Snow Queen is a baddy, but not evil, and the Summer Queen is essentially the good fairy. But there’s Jack Frost, who’s trying to take over the Ice Kingdom from the Snow Queen.”
The show presents a new challenge for the society, who normally do the “tried and tested pantomimes”.
Margaret adds: “We’re going to see how it goes – hopefully it’s one we can add to our repertoire.”
Music for The Snow Queen is in the hands of Joe Moretti and his band of six while masterminding the “spectrum of dance” is choreographer Jo Elson.
The panto runs from Friday January 24, to Saturday, February 1, excluding January 27, and tickets are £10/£8 children and OAPs on 07939-926449.
