A SEASON of top-flight comedy continues at Bridgwater Arts Centre with stand-up’s golden girl, and actress, Lucy Porter.

A regular face on TV’s favourite panel shows, on Saturday Porter brings her latest tour, Northern Soul, to the Somerset stage, delving deep into what it means to feel alien in your home town.

Born in Croydon in the 1980s, a teenage Lucy found herself at sea in a world of London-centric materialism and superficiality.

With the likes of Morrissey, David Hockney, and a boy from Bury making her heart sing, she concluded she must have a “Nothern Soul” instead.

The bouncy comedian with the famously “itchy feet” has an extra mission in mind however, when she lands on Bridgwater’s doorstep.

Lucy explained: “I don’t really know much about Bridgwater, and I’m looking forward to discovering it. As much as anything, this tour has also been a fact-finding mission to find out where we are going to live as a family.

I’d like to settle down somewhere where the kids feel they belong, and I’d move to Bridgwater if I like it enough.

“The audience should also realise that they’re auditioning to be our neighbours, so they need to bring their ‘A’ game to the show.”

Tickets cost £12/£8 for Northern Soul, which starts at 8pm at Bridgwater Arts Centre.
