Art critic Brian Sewell to give a talk at Street's Strode Theatre
9:00am Monday 7th October 2013 in What's On
HE’S the outspoken art critic, writer and commentator with the controversial opinions.
Brian Sewell comes to Strode Theatre in Street next Saturday for a rousing afternoon talk on his fascinating life story, titled, The Outsider.
After graduating from the Courtauld Institute of Art in the 1950s under Anthony Blunt, the octogenarian progressed to Christie’s auction house to learn the tricks of the art dealing trade before going solo.
Having secured a post as art critic and journalist for the London Evening Standard, Sewell went on to win numerous awards, upsetting many apple carts – including being banned from the Royal College of Art – and winning admirers in equal measure.
In recent years he has become a prolific media presence, with documentaries such as Channel 5’s The Naked Pilgrim, and Brian Sewell’s Grand Tour.
He has also appeared as a some-time film critic and as a panellist on the BBC’s Have I Got News For You.
Brian’s talk starts at 3pm, to be followed by a Q&A session and book signing. Tickets are £13/£11.
