Bridgwater Carnival Countdown starts RIGHT HERE!
12:40pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in What's On
THE countdown to this year’s Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival has officially begun.
A preview, now stocked at the Carnival Centre, gives a glimpse into the biggest event in the town calendar.
Tickets are also officially available online at www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk with the first of three upcoming ticket selling sessions coming up this Saturday, August 31, between 10am and 1pm at the Carnival Centre.
Catching up with the Mercury, the first female Carnival president, Rita Jones, gave some tasters of what 2013 revellers can expect.
“At the bottom of High Street all day we’ll be repeating the big screen again so people can see the carts’ procession before they get to them, which went down really well last year.
“We’re going to have ‘fireworks and Fawkes’ where children from four local schools are going to make lanterns for a parade from the YMCA building on to St Matthews field, where there will be a man-sized effigy of Guy Fawkes, and we’ll set light to him, but we’re not yet sure how.”
The Carnival Concerts are the season’s curtainraiser, running from September 30 until October 12 with over 3,500 tickets on offer for the 12 scheduled performances from over 600 entertainers.
Among the new acts this year are musician Callum Hill, vocalists Imogen Pearce, Liam Duggan, Bell Etoile and Rebecca Morris, and folk duo Andrews Half Sister.
Meanwhile, the loud, bold acts for Carnival day on Saturday, November 2, include striking Stiltskin UK performer Abi Falkener, Notting Hill Carnival favourites the Elimu Paddington Arts Mas Band and foot-stomping ska band The Courgettes.
Pick up your preview from the Carnival Centre or see www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk for ticket information.
