Bridgwater Flower Show 2013... Could it be the last?
12:00pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in What's On
IT’S run every year but one since 1892.
Yet 2013 could be Bridgwater Flower Show’s last if community enthusiasts don’t step in to save it from going under.
Held at the Town Hall, this year’s Flower Show opens from 1.30pm-5.30pm on Friday (August 23) and 10am-3pm on Saturday the 24th.
Entries for the 186 classes – with registration closing today (Tuesday) – include vegetables, cut flowers, photography, and novice crafts, and will barely be able to fit in the building, says secretary Jackie Sealey.
“Bridgwater also has the largest collection of cups and trophies in the area, if not the South West,” she says.
But there are real fears this heritage could be lost. Illness and the sad passing away of members over the past few months has meant the non-stop committee no longer has the manpower for 2014 to become a reality.
