THE Cider Barn Gallery, in Moorlinch, will showcase work by Somerset-based artist Nancy Farmer this month.

Her extraordinary characters will be on display alongside other local artists’ work during the Easter weekend beginning on March 29.

All those exhibiting are part of Spring Farm Arts – a venture which the group run from their workshops and galleries in the picturesque village.

Nancy, who describes her work as neither fantasy nor satire, said: “I like to add a certain humanity and ordinariness to fantasy and vice versa.

“I do not like to take my subjects too seriously.”

Devils are often pictured in her work, lounging about or persecuting the damned with very little enthusiasm.

Other common characters include malevolent angels, and fairies that are not to be trusted.

Nancy, who has worked as a metalwork conservator, a jewellery model maker, and a goldsmith said:

“This is a certain blend of satire, fantasy and reality, inspired by nothing more than the world we live in.

“Indolence, brash sexuality, boredom and decline are favourite themes, and yet I do not mean to depress you – my images generally amuse, entertain, sometimes alarm, and just occasionally they may make you stop and think.”
