Pinocchio to be performed in Wellington
4:01pm Friday 18th January 2013 in What's On
STRANGEFACE Theatre Company is coming to Wellington with its adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Pinocchio, based on Carlo Collodi’s original story.
The company, which describes itself as more Dahl than Disney, uses masks and puppetry to appeal to adults as well as children.
The half-masks are designed and made by artistic director Russell Dean, who has provided television shows including the Brit Awards with pieces.
Together with his two brothers, director Ashley and composer Mark, Russell has created a unique style inspired by Tim Burton, the Commedia dell’Arte tradition and new writing.
Russell said: “There is a preconception here that masks and puppet theatre is for children.
“While we know from audiences that children as young as three and four have been enthralled, we make our productions to be layered so that groups of adults should enjoy them equally – though perhaps for different reasons!”
The performance at Wellington Arts Centre on Saturday, February 9, starts at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm). Tickets cost £6-£8 and are available at www.|w-a-a.co.uk. For further details visit www.strangeface.co.uk or www.takeart.org
