REVIEW: Marketeers CC Rocking with Laughter

IT’S the time of year for fun, laughter and merriment and that’s exactly what the Marketeers Carnival Club gave their audience at their new venue, Bridgwater Town Hall, on Saturday, December 8, with their Rocking with Laughter presentation.

West Country comic and compere, Stewart Masters, burst onto the stage and his larger than life character warmed everyone up on a very cold evening and put everyone in the mood for a night of fabulous entertainment.

Talented vocalist, Steve Parr, was the opening act and his voice had a great range from Michael Buble’s Save the Last Dance for Me and Cry me a River, Neil Sedaka’s Oh Carol to Bring him Home from Les Miserables.

Steve was thrown slightly when, having invited the audience to wave lighters and mobiles in true concert style as he sang We are the Champions, well-known local Jan Harvey waved her zimmer frame, complete with light on the front, in the air.

The poor singer had to work hard to conceal his amusement, adding that it was certainly a first for him in his career.

The moment Paul Eastwood walked on stage it was obvious that he was experienced in bringing the audience into his act and anyone walking around, including the waiter, was going to be the butt of his jokes.

But he is an amazing comic and kept everyone in hysterics with his jokes and humour. Second half act, Greggi G and his Crazy Gang, filled the room with Shake, Rattle and Roll, Summer Time Blues, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly.

It was difficult to sit still in your seat as unfortunately the venue only left a tiny gap at the front to get up and have a bop, although some managed it.

Greggi G in his pork pie hat was on double bass with talented pianist, guitarist and drummer combining expertly into one great explosion of music and fun.

No matter what your favourite rock ‘n’ roll style, this enthralling and lively music including classics, boogie woogie and vintage swing was infectious and great fun.

Thanks for all the fantastic cabarets that Marketeers Carnival Club has brought to Bridgwater audiences this year.

Make a note of the next one – Variety the Spice of Life – on February 16 at the Town Hall.
