Jeremy Vine will be hunting for two new Eggheads to join the popular general knowledge quiz show.

The new show, titled Make Me An Egghead, has been announced as part of the new line-up of commissions announced by BBC One and Two.

It will see Vine scouring the UK for one male and one female contestant to join the brainy Eggheads line-up.

Jeremy said: “I am proud to present one of the UK’s most successful quizzes of all time and hugely excited that we are in the hunt for two more Eggheads.

“Whoever wins a place on the distinguished panel will, I guarantee, have the time of their life – sitting between Kevin Ashman and Judith Keppel and getting more questions thrown at them than they ever dreamed of.

“But I know this will be a hot contest – superbrain versus superbrain in that famous studio. So if you want to be an Egghead, roll up now!”

BBC Two’s Eggheads has been running since 2003 and sees teams from all over the UK try to beat Britain’s brainiest quiz panel, the Eggheads.

The main Eggheads quiz show has also been re-commissioned for its 18th series.

The corporation’s flagship channel, BBC One, will see five new factual formats on its schedules. They include a series, Ill Gotten Gains, which will follow regional organised crime units and police forces as they take on Britain’s criminals.

Consumer affairs specialist Dominic Littlewood returns to screens with Dom On The Spot, where he’ll meet the officials behind the fines given for offences, as well as the victims.

A new pilot called United Nations Street will focus on life in Leicester’s Narborough Road, dubbed Britain’s “most diverse street”, and home to shopkeepers from 22 nationalities.

Apart from Vine’s new entertainment quiz show, BBC Two will also add Debatable to its line-up. The show will be fronted by Irish comedian and TV personality Patrick Kielty, who will be quizzing the public following discussions with well-known faces.

Dan McGolpin, BBC’s Controller Daytime and Early-Peak, said: “I am committed to bringing through new and distinctive series to sit alongside existing favourites on BBC One in Daytime and on BBC Two in Early-Peak.

“These new programmes will include original investigative journalism, compelling and heart-warming stories about inspirational individuals and captivating entertainment shows that will challenge even the most formidable quizzers.”
