James Corden has revealed he has the best car pool for his new job in the US – his passenger is none other than Mariah Carey, who sings along with him during the journey.

In the comedy sketch for his new role as host of The Late Late Show, James is seen driving a car to the studio and telling a mystery passenger: “Thanks for helping me out with my journey to work, it’s just the traffic is so bad that it’s a nightmare if I don’t have someone with me.”

The camera then pans to superstar Mariah sitting alongside him, wearing large sunglasses and a single fingerless glove.

Car mates James and Mariah bump fists about his new job before he switches the radio on to find that it is playing Mariah’s hit Always Be My Baby.

At first, she is reluctant to sing along, protesting: “I’m not singing today, I was up all night,” but is unable to resist warbling along to the opening lyrics before letting a note-perfect James take centre stage.

During their journey, the pair belt out plenty of her other hits including Fantasy and Vision Of Love, as well as trying out each others’ accents.

James, who showed off his singing skills in Into The Woods, took over The Late Late Show this month to praise from critics and audiences.

In an interview with fellow chat show host Conan O’Brien, he admitted he had suffered with nerves on his first night fronting the programme.

He said: “Well, it’s terrifying is the truth… One night I found myself behind the curtain with all of these people who I thought were in it with me going, ‘Hey good luck man,’ and you look and they’re gone and you’re just on your own and all you can see is the spotlight from the back of the room on the curtain, just this circle, and you just go, ‘Ah this is going to open in a minute and I’m going to have to walk out there and look remotely like I know anything about anything’.

“And then it’s just a quest to not throw up on your own clothes. That’s the truth.”

You can see James’s interview on Conan on Thursday, March 26 at 1am on truTV in the UK.
