Naomi Campbell has revealed that she needed a bit of convincing before taking on her role in TV drama Empire.

The supermodel stars in the US series about a family and their hip hop empire, which has also featured famous cast and guest stars including Courtney Love and Cuba Gooding Jr.

In an interview with Vogue, Naomi said that she was already friends with creator Lee Daniels but had still been a little reluctant to take on an acting role.

She explained: “I’ve known Lee for a long time but when he asked me to play the role, I wasn’t sure. I’d kind of given up on acting.”

Naomi’s last acting role was in the 2009 Bollywood film Karma, Confessions and Holi, but she said that her friend Diane von Furstenberg had eventually convinced her to give Empire a go.

In the series, Naomi’s character Camilla Marks has been enjoying a romance with young rapper Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y Gray) and the style queen added that she brought all of her own outfits with her as costumes.

She continued: “When it comes to personal style, I love pencil skirts one day and sneakers the next. I’m not predictable.”
