FESTIVAL organiser Michael Eavis promised this year's Glastonbury Festival would be "something special" and he has duly delivered his word.

Revellers have braved the wet weather to experience some of the hottest talent on the music circuit right now, including the irresistable New York outfit Vampire Weekend.

Kate Nash kicked-off the festival spirit on the Pyramid Stage at 10.50am and treated the audience to fabulous exhibition of her popular tracks.

The songs Foundations and Mouthwash prompted a whole host of smiles, feet-stomping and hip-wiggling as Kate ploughed through her set list with ease.

Following her performance, the John Peel Stage offered a real treat in the form of Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson.

His irresistible vocal range and immense ability on the piano captivated the thrilled audience throughout. He is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Up and coming British group Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong gave a solid performance during their afternoon set on the Other Stage before American indie-pop specialists Vampire Weekend dazzled their adoring audience during the first of two live sets during this festival.

Favourites such as A-Punk, Oxford Comma and Walcott prompted a plethora of singing, dancing and smiles from the thousands of eager music fans.

As forecasted, festival-goers endured a deluge of rain half-way through the group's set but, as usual, it has done little to deter the spirits of the ardent music fans.

Over on the Jazz World stage, American hip-hop star Lupe Fiasco wowed the audience with his majestic set, splicing hits such as Kick Push, Go Go Gadget Flow and Superstar with ease.

Quirky garage rock trio We Are Scientists drew one of the biggest crowds of the evening on the Other Stage and provided a show worthy of the plaudits it has received.

Closing proceedings on the Jazz World stage was reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. His empowering performance prompted an impressive array of interaction from his adoring fans.
