Debut release for The Skabz -- 16 years on

Tiverton'S original Punk band, The Skabz, have finally had their debut release 16 years after recording the track.

It was way back in 1994 (we think) when The Skabz won a White Ball Inn battle of the bands and headed up to Alan Wilson's X-Ray studio in Paulton near Bristol as their prize.

They recorded a handful of tracks during their day there, had fun then pretty much forgot about them and eventually split.

Now in 2010 one of those tracks has been found in the vaults and included in a compilation on an established label that has international distribution and reputation.

'Rare Psychobilly' has been released on Raucous Records and is a collection of tracks recorded at X-Ray studio back in the early 1990s.

Their track 'Punks On Billy' is one of 24 by various artists.

There is a further Tiverton, and particularly White Ball (which was a thriving music pub in the town before being sold to Wetherspoon in 1998) connection.

Four of the bands featured all played the Westexe venue, Lux and The Sharks on one occasion (The Sharks featured Morrissey's bass player Gary Day in their line-up) while Breakout and The Frantic Flintstones played on numerous occasions.

Older White Ball regulars will remember the latter's gigs were wild.

The singer from The Skabz, Simon Phillips, still lives in Tiverton but the others are spread far and wide.
