GARAGE employers are being sought to take on apprentices after the amount of applications to Weston College soared.
The Motor Vehicle Maintenance courses have been inundated with applications at its expanded state-of-the-art workshops in Locking Road, Weston-super-Mare.
Vehicle Maintenance Lecturer, Ian Aldridge, said: “This is our third year and we offer training for apprentices plus part and full-time courses for Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications.
“We have 60 students and apprentices on courses but what we need are more garage employers prepared to take on apprentices and give them a chance to learn on the job.
“We have sophisticated diagnostic equipment, four lecturers and a technician, so offer the highest level of training. We have keen apprentices we need to match to employers.”
Roger Powell, director of the college’s Construction and Engineering Centre of Excellence, has also appealed to employers.
“The Motor Vehicle Maintenance Course is extremely popular with high quality training.
"Now, we’d like employers to give apprentices their backing,” he added.
