THOUSANDS of young people and their parents and carers attended the largest careers fair in Somerset last week.
Organised by Connect South-West at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre, near junction 24 of the M5, the event was also the official launch of Connect South West, formerly Connexions Somerset - the company responsible for the delivery of the careers service for Connexions in Somerset.
Connect South-West Chief Executive Rachel Bendall said: “The Careers Fair was a very special occasion for us, not only because it is one of our highlights of the year but because it was also the launch of our new company name - Connect South West.
“Today we are responsible for delivering more than 50 contracts across the South-West and our previous name no longer accurately represented the wide spectrum of services we now deliver.
“Our new name reflects the broad spectrum of services we deliver as we continue to build a strong reputation as an innovative organisation which is able to respond and adapt to the needs of our customers and the business arena in which we work.”
The Careers Fair was a huge success with thousands of people attending.
Representatives from over 80 organisations from a wide range of employers, professional bodies, educational and training providers were present on the evening.
Visitors were able to gain valuable careers information directly from consultants representing industry, volunteering, education, training, colleges, sixth forms and universities.
Rachel Bendall added: “We have a proud history of running quality careers events and this event was no exception.
“I would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to support the event and hope that next year’s event will be equally successful.”
