AUCTIONEERS Greenslade Taylor Hunt are gearing up for the well-regarded Autumn Sporting Sale which is always a highlight in the antiques calendar and takes place on Friday, October 6, at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

Put together by sporting sales valuer Stuart Triggol this specialist event offers a rich vein of field sports, team sports and sporting art for the enthusiast.

Along with its Spring counterpart it is a rare stand-alone event in the antiques calendar. These sales attract vendors and buyers from around the country and across the globe.

Among the highlights will be two studies of bridled Bay Hunters on board by popular artist Frances Mabel Hollams. The oil on grain pictures are both titled and signed by Hollams. One is named “Ione” and the other “Queen Elizabeth”. They each have a pre-sale guide of £500-£700.

In the past the local artist has proved a major hit in the saleroom. Recent results at The Octagon Salerooms have included £2,200 paid for a study of a Bay Hunter entitled “Carnation”, while at the same sale woodworm damage to the board did not deter a buyer paying £1,850 for a study of black Spaniel named Roger.

As well as an interesting picture section the sale will include a comprehensive range of sporting books, silver, jewellery, ceramics and decorative items. Football, rugby, cricket and golfing items are all featured.

Equestrian saddlery and luggage plus hunting horns, flask, hats, boots and coats will also be featured in the sale along with fishing rods, reels and accessories.

It commences at 10am on Friday, October 6, and will be on view on Saturday, September 30, from 9am-12.30pm. The sale entries can also be viewed on Tuesday, October 3, and Wednesday, October 4, between 9am and 5pm.

Entries close for the sale on Monday, September 11. For more information please contact Stuart Triggol on 01823 332525.
