A PRE-WAR Alvis motor car is one of the star cars in the Charterhouse June auction of classic and vintage cars where it is estimated to sell for over £100,000.
“It’s a lot of money but it’s a lot of car.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “However, if you say it quickly enough or compare it to a similar Bentley of the same period, it actually looks excellent value for money, although I am not sure whether my wife would agree with me!”
Delivered new in 1936 this Alvis Speed 20 SD was originally supplied with a 4 door Charlesworth coach built body. Although it has had a low ownership over the past 80 years, the decision was taken in 1996 to re-body the car with an Alvis Vanden Plas 4.3 litre style touring body. This body was hand crafted over a new ash frame and still looks in great shape today.
Fitted with a 3 litre six cylinder engine fitted to a four speed gearbox with overdrive, the current owner, who lives in Devon, has not only toured around Britain in this Alvis, but also across France.
Part of the Devon collection, this Alvis has featured in the Alvis Owners Club magazines and been used by Richard Hoskins Insurance in a classic car marketing campaign.
With continuous history from new, and just six owners in over 80 years, this fine Alvis Speed 20 SD Tourer is estimated to sell for £100,000-120,000* at the Charterhouse classic & vintage car auction on Sunday 18th June, which is being held in conjunction with the Footman James Bristol Classic Car Show at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet.
Charterhouse is now accepting further entries for this specialist classic and vintage car auction and for their two-day auction on June 22 and 23 which includes coins, stamps, medals & collectors’ items along with nearly 5,000 bottles of wine, port & spirits.
