Heifers topped at £1780 for a non-pedigree heifer from Messrs RL & ME Trott. Pedigree heifers to £1710 and £1680 from Messrs M & K Churchill & Son. Others £1610 and £1540 from Messrs DJ & SJ Cheacker and £1480 from Messrs JH & SA Denbee. A larger entry of cows sold to £1610, £1510, £1420 and £1380 from Messrs MW & BM Cox & Sons. Others £1550 from Messrs KD & VJ Palfrey. Shorthorn cross heifers to £1350 from Mr DR Glanfield.

A run of pedigree incalf heifers due July/August from Messrs R & J Bowles “Sidedowns” herd sold to £1280, £1230 and £1200 to average £1135. Pedigree bulling heifers from Mr S Barrell of Norfolk sold to £820 for a red and white with others to £800. Young heifer calves to £170.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a small April entry of commercial suckler cows saw a selective trade with no pedigree stock on offer following last week’s successful sale.

A pure bred Limousin bull from Melanie Forward sold to £2000.

A grand run of incalf 2nd calving British Bluex for Victorian Barn, Blandford sold to £1320 x2 to average £1225. A run of 4 British Bluex incalf heifers sold to £1000 for Messrs ET Summerfield & Son of Oxford, who had pedigree Limousin bulling heifers at £1020 and crossbred heifers to £1005 x2.

Cows and calves to £1510 for a Simmental cow and calf at foot for Messrs RT & MS Cox, Shaftesbury. Others £1300 for a Herefordx cow and calf for Messrs TA Dowden & Son, who also had an Angus cow and calf at £1260. Herefordx cow and Shorthorn calf at £1260 for Mr H Attwell.

A good trade for several Galloway outfits saw cows and calves to £1060 and £980 for Messrs EG Hedges & Son, Thornbury. Dexters to £360, £350 and £340 for Messrs D & LM Hobbs who had incalf Dexeter cows to £300.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another good entry of 311, which was met by the liveliest trade for some time, when there was fierce competition for all grades and ages. An excellent consignment from Messrs WPD & MR Robinson topped the market with a 13m Blue steer, which made £1075 and who had others to £1010 (13m) £965 and £960 – well done, a superb show of cattle. Closely followed by Mr JJ Cooper who achieved £1070 for a (10m) Charolais steer. Others to £905 (8m). Limousins to £1005 (12m) from Mr DJ Cheacker, others to £935 (12m). Messrs MD & KE Lanfear £985 for an (8m) Limousin. Messrs JA & G Aldworth £945 and £900 for 12m Limousin steers. Herefords from Mr D Willis (14m) to £900 and others to £900 (12m) from Messrs CA & MA Ralph. The usual classy entry from Messrs EA & DA Ellis saw Charolais steers to £895 (9m) and £885 (12m). Very few Angus forward when 6m old made £555 and others to £520.

Heifers topped by Messrs EA & DA Ellis at £945 (13m) Charolais followed by a (15m) Blonde to £900 from Mr DG Knight, when others sold to £885. A shapely run from Mr R Skelley saw Blondes to £885 (9m) when others in the same run made £705. Heifers from Messrs WPD & MR Robinson saw British Blues to £850 (11m) and £770 and Limousins to £820 (13m). Charolais from Mr DM Baker to £750 (15m) and £745 from Mr JJ Cooper. Orphan Lambs (59): A smaller entry of orphans sold to a stronger trade when the overall average exceeded £20/head. Top call of £75 for a ewe lamb from Mr M Taylor. Stronger lambs from Mr CA Churchill and Mr RG & Mrs SA Stone to £42/head.

Goats (16): A small entry of 16 small wether goats sold at £35 head from Farmer Palmer Farms.

Centurion Group of Poll Dorset & Dorset Horn Ewes & Rams (35): The focus remained on quality over quantity with 35 first rate ewes and rams on offer. The high prices were shared across the Vendors, however the top call was 780gns achieved by Mr DW Rossiter, who sold another at 680gns. Other prices of note in the ram lines included 760gns from Mr J Dufosee and Messrs W & K Carson who achieved 680gns, 650gns and 620gns.

Pedigree ewes to 280gns and 260gns from Mr J Dufosee. Others from Messrs R & R Hole to 250gns and 200gns.

The Overall Champion was awarded to Mr DW Rossiter once again this year.
