Store Lambs (1742): A similar number entry of 1742 store lambs sold to a continuing strong trade for the best but generally slightly easier for the medium and smaller types. Ram Lambs sold as store lambs are to be declared. Those lots so declared to not contain any ram lambs, which are found post sale to contain undeclared ram lambs, will attract a 25% reduction in the sale price of any ram lambs found. Similarly Cryptorchids are to be declared.

Grazing Ewes and Rams (1131): A larger entry and much better overall quality sold to a very strong, flying trade for all presented. The best ewes were easily £100 plus and sold to £124 from Mr J Smith. Others £119 and £109.50 from Messrs DW & AE Enticott; £118.50 and £105.50 from Mr CJ Sage; £116 from Messrs RJ Turner & Partners; £114 from Messrs AG Hinks & Sons; £110.50 from Mr SG Yates; £106.50 from Mr JF Belcher and Mr WT Hodges and £105.50 from Mr D Marks. Mediums ranged £67-£80, plain £57-£67. Boners nearly all £20 plus. Overall average £72.40.

Couples (256 Ewes and 393 Lambs): Many more couples forward this week with 256 ewes and 393 lambs which sold to a similar trade. However the average was pegged by the higher proportion of older ewes on offer.

Best doubles keenly sought to £210 (£70/life) from Mr C Peach. Others to £198 (£66/life) from Mr B Payne, who sold others at £192 (£64/life); £185 (£61.67/life) from Master E Foster and £180 (£60/life) from Mr T Parris.

Singles to £142 (£71/life) from Mr B Payne, which was closely followed by Mr T Parris at £140 (£70/life) and Mr SJ Cheacker, Miss R Hann and Mr W Hooper at £138 (£69/life).

Many outfits with older and broken mouth ewes trading hands between £40-£45/life. Overall average £47.61/life.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 92 cull cattle met another super trade, although a little more realism in the bidding for the very plain types saw prices that may more usually be expected.

Top was 156.5ppk for a young (57m) 746kg Longhorn cow from Mr C Jones, Shurton, who also sold an Angus (66m & 575kg) at 132.5ppk. Best continental cows at 154.5ppk (Blue & 816kg) from Messrs JF Walker & Partners, North Petherton; 147.5 (Limousin & 652kg) and 146.5ppk (Blue & 686kg) both from Mrs M Forward, Talaton. Better type continentals 130 to 139ppk.

Sucklers sold to £1,260.72 for the Blue from Messrs JF Walker & Partners. The Longhorn from Mr C Jones returned at £1,167.49. Others over £1000 were a Charolais at £1,063.90 from Mr HJ & Mrs HB Case, Highbridge and a Blue at £1,004.99 from Mrs M Forward.
