Your Say: Should Sedgemoor Splash be demolished?
Stephen Packer, Bridgwater

SEDGEMOOR District Council has announced plans to demolish the Sedgemoor Splash and replace it with a new £4.9 million traditional swimming pool complex on the Chilton Trinity Technology Centre site as part of the Northgate regeneration project.

Splash has become a family favourite since it was opened in 1991, with both children and parents enjoying the rapids and flumes.

Should the council go ahead with these proposed plans? Is Bridgwater crying out for a traditional swimming pool? Will Bridgwater miss Sedgemoor Splash if it is demolished?

The Mercury took to Bridgwater high street to find out what you think.

STEPHEN PACKER, BRIDGWATER: "I think it is a good idea. The current Splash centre is too old fashioned and a new pool would be ideal."

JAMES MOORE, BRIDGWATER: "I'm against it. I work in care and the autistic boy I look after loves the fun activities on offer at Splash. A traditional pool would not be suitable for him."

MIKE HART, BRIDGWATER: "I'm sure it'll probably be better to create a proper swimming pool but the kids will miss Splash."

CALLUM DUNBAR, BRIDGWATER: "As a former competitive swimmer, a traditional pool is good for the town. I think it's a good idea but people will miss Splash."

JULIE LUDWICK AND SON SAM, BRIDGWATER: "Splash is the only decent place for kids to enjoy themselves in the town. It's not a good idea at all."

DEREK CHICK, BRIDGWATER: "Once Splash goes and the new pool opens, people will forget about Splash and enjoy the new pool. Splash is in the wrong location at the moment anyway."

The Splash gives pleasure to all age groups. It would be such a loss to them and Bridgwater.

i remeber as a kid going to the lido on broadway. what a good day out that place was. the round windows inside the front doors that looked into the pool were a laugh!! the worst days work this town done was knocking that pool down. i never liked the splash as much but lets not repeat the closure of the lido. plus, princess diana opened splash aswell if i remeber rightly as i was there!

First we had a great pool complex then it was shut down. Then we had a 'play' pool complex and that looks like shutting down. Maybe we could all go and swim in the canal?

Typical of the thinking of a backward town!!! Lets move the only public facility out of the town and make it unaccessible to the majority, then it can be passed on to the school or a privateer due to lack of use.

yes i think the splash should be knocked down it's a waste of money a glorified kids paddling pool you can't have a decent swim in there i think marks and sparks or simalar should be on the splash site. Chilton trinity would be a good location to bulid a traditional swimming pool one which has lanes and depth you can swim in also diving boards saunas etc i use the street pool it may be old fashioned but at least you can have a decent swim there the only problem its to far to travel all the time once the splash is gone people will forget it and at last we will have a decent pool to swim in so hurry up and get on with the new project

i think that this is a stupid idea why should we get rid of splash you got rid of lido why dont the council focus on doing thier job instead of demolishing things which lets face it thier never going to build again they'll just leave it!yeah lets go swim in the canal good idea!

I have worked at the splash for over a year now and it's a great pool for all ages, all abilities. People come as far away as swindon to experience our slides and other facilities. We are also home to the largest aqua slide in the south west! what a waste if it gets demolished. There are no other pools in the nearby area whch can offer what we do!
