BRIDGWATER Netball Club's Venus played their last match of the season against Barons on Saturday.
The teams fought hard for the lead, with the passing of Sam Woollcott (C) creating opportunities and Emily Page-Symonds (WA) giving fine feeds into the circle. The first quarter finished 9-4 to Barons In the second quarter, Barons' GS and GA did some great shooting. Venus's defence worked hard, with Emily Rowland (WD) intercepting. At half time, Barons led 16-11.
Venus kept the pressure on, with good play from the whole team. Anne Marie McDonagh (GD) played strongly against her GA, making a number of interceptions. But even with excellent shooting by Norah Lewis (GS), Venus were 26-21 down.
They battled hard throughout the final quarter, with Abi King (GA) doing some amazing shooting. Gina McGuckin (GK) defended well during Venus's best quarter, as interceptions and great passes, enabled them to win 32-29. Player of the match: Gina McGuckin.
