THE president of Bridgwater Carnival is preparing for his first time at the helm of the annual spectacular - and says he is as excited by the event as any of the spectators.
Doug Robson took over the chain of office from Chris Hocking earlier this year, and he has been involved with Carnival for 47 years.
During that time, he's been a walking entry, a member of two different clubs, a committee member, a charity collector, a cart builder and now president.
But with nearly half a century under his belt, he says his passion "burns as brightly as ever", and he is looking forward to welcoming a host of new Carnival converts to the town on Friday.
He said: "What is it that makes Carnival so special? The whole thing! The atmosphere is so exciting. I think people who are seeing it for the first time will be amazed - and I'm sure they will be back to see it again.
I'm really excited about this year, and think it could be the biggest and best Carnival yet. I am sure you'll have a brilliant night - and hopefully be back again in future years too. Enjoy Carnival 2007."
