AS the much anticipated Bridgwater Carnival draws ever closer, members of the British Flag Carnival Club are excited about this year's theme.

Titled 'The show must go on,' it promises to be very different from what was done previously.

"It's going to be brilliant and that's all I'm saying about it," said Laura Dodden, club Chairman.

"We usually decide what theme we're going to do around the time of Burnham Carnival, and from then on it's just crazy.

"In the last few years we've done really well- since 2008 we've been in the top three on stage every year."

The British Flag Carnival Club have just celebrated their 65th anniversary, with 54 current members and 15 associates.

The youngest member is aged 15, with the oldest being 75.

The club's headquarters are, and always have been, the British Flag pub in Chilton Street, Bridgwater.

"We meet once a week until rehearsals begin and then it's usually fortnightly," said Laura, who's been Chairman for four years.

"It's been mad with fundraising this year and it's taken us 180 hours to build the stage set.

"We've got 46 members on stage at the carnival concert.

"We build our cart on Colley Lane Industrial Estate and we're away from the other clubs and carnival village, which is quite nice really.

"A lot of my family are involved with British Flag and we have atleast two generations of other families too.

"This year will be bigger and better- I love it.

"It's either in your blood or not."
