THE dust has settled on another incredible carnival circuit - and once again it's the Gremlins who have come out on top.

The Bridgwater club won the feature class in all seven carnivals on the Somerset County Guy Fawkes circuit - and will share the Starkey Cup with Gemini CC, of Ilminster, who achieved similar success in the tableau class.

Gremlins CC, whose entry was the stunning Revolution, won at Bridgwater, Weston, North Petherton, Highbridge and Burnham, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.

The Gremlins also won the county public choice, chairman's choice and top table choice awards, and gongs for best generator and technical achievement.

There was success for other Bridgwater clubs, too.

Ramblers CC, with Adventures of Ali Baba, won the county award for its music, while Marina Sydenham CC won the best juvenile costume award.

Marina Sydenham and Newmarket CC also dominated their respective juvenile cart and comic classes, equalling Gremlins' achievement by winning all seven carnivals.

Andrew McLean, Gremlins club chairman, said: “It's been an incredible year for carnival and I think everybody has shown that carnival is still a great spectacle.

“I'd like to congratulate Gemini, and also Newmarket and Marina Sydenham.

“We have tried to portray something different for the road and the stage, and it's paid off.

“We've had such a great reaction, both from the spectators and fellow carnivalites. I think it's a cart that will live long in the memory.”

The Gremlins have now won nine straight Bridgwater Carnivals, four Starkey Cups in a row, and an incredible 27 consecutive feature class wins at the seven Guy Fawkes carnivals.

But nobody is resting on their laurels - the Gremlins are meeting tonight to start planning for 2013.
