Diamond celebrations for devoted Puriton couple

12:40pm Friday 25th April 2008

A DEVOTED Puriton couple will celebrate 60 happy years of marriage on May 5.

Gordon and Margaret House wed in 1948 after meeting at an agricultural dance at Othery village hall in 1946.

Gordon, born in Puriton in 1924, attended Puriton School and worked on a farm with his uncle during the Second World War.

Margaret was born in Moorlynch in 1925 and went to Moorlynch School. She also worked hard on a farm ensuring enough food was produced to coincide with the rationing incentive.

The couple have two children, Sheila and Alan, as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Asked to recall their proudest moment together, Gordon said: "I would say giving my lovely daughter away. It was a very emotional moment. We were both very proud."

Recalling their wedding day, Margaret said: "Although it was very windy, it was a lovely day and one I look back on with great fondness.

"I would say the secret to preserving a loving, healthy marriage is give and take. We are as happy together now as we were all those years ago."

Gordon and Margaret will celebrate their anniversary with relatives and close friends at a party organised by daughter Sheila at the Huntspill Arms on May 6.
