Over 60s club: THE April 17 meeting was the annual general one with Joan Lee opening proceedings and welcoming members. First it was the secretary's report given by Grace Sellick and then Brenda Burrows gave the treasurer's report saying a donation from the Monday Bingo Club, run by George and Valerie Street, had been received. Also a donation in memory of a previous member, Edna Truman.
Joan Lee gave her report and thanked the committee for their work, informing everyone she was stepping down as chairperson, which saddened and surprised them as she had performed an excellent job. Brenda Burrow will be taking over and the rest of the committee will be staying the same.
Speaker for the afternoon was Mr Peter Sealey with slides from the Quantocks, showing the rounding up of ponies and lovely scenes of stags bellowing. Joan Lee thanked him for the lovely show.

On May 1 the club had a bingo afternoon, kindly arranged by George and Valerie Street, making a nice change with members getting excited waiting for their numbers to come up. After refreshments it was auction time with members bringing gifts from tins of biscuits to plants, followed by the raffle, all helping to boost club funds.
Brenda Burrows closed the meeting reminding everyone of the times for the coach trip to Dorchester and Weymouth on May 7.
Women's Institute: THE April meeting was opened by Donna Cooper, president, who welcomed members and thanked the member who had donated the flower arrangement. After the singing of Jerusalem the secretary, Annie Grimsham, read the minutes.
Daphne Cook reported on the group spring meeting held at Walton when the speaker was Chris Sperring of The Owl Trust. Several items from County News were discussed from the correspondence including group quiz at Woolavington on June 13 and coffee morning at Donna Coopers on June 7.
Mary Hellier was asked to continue arranging matches for the group skittles, which she agree to do and orders for next year's calendars and dairies were actioned. There were two resolutions to discuss and be voted on, firstly by Brenda Burrow for a ban on trawling at the bottom of the sea, causing loss of the marine life. Secondly by Jay Jenkins, the inappropriate imprisonment of the severely mentally ill.
Members asked several questions on these resolutions before voting for them both. They then enjoyed pitting their knowledge with a quiz, arranged by Donna Cooper, which concluded the meeting.
The next monthly meeting will be June 3 to which visitors are welcome.
