THE chairman opened the meeting on Friday May 9 with a welcome to all in attendance. There was one birthday to celebrate for Mrs V. Astle before names were taken for the outing to Brixham on May 23.
Mrs Kirk had compiled a quiz for the afternoon entitled Number Cruncher with the answers to the clue obviously being numbers. The first one - Blind Mice - was ridiculously simple and an incentive to carry on and solve more of the 30 questions in all. Most were comparatively easy but Shanghai in darts and letters in the Russian alphabet took more thought or just guesswork. Bells in Cannington tower was deduced by some members by thinking of the known bellringers.
The two winning teams had 25 correct answers and others had 24 and 23 but all were offered a small prize for their efforts. As a finale there was a geometric question, which the chairman answered so quickly it left others still trying to work it out.
Mrs Kirk was thanked for entertaining members with such an interesting and different quiz. After the raffle and refreshments, there was a reminder that next week will be the beetle drive and this brought the enjoyable meeting to a close.
