Sedgemoor Embroidery and Textiles Group meet on the second Monday of each month at St George's Parish Centre, Wembdon at 7.30pm with a varied programme with a running theme of embroidery and textiles or anything and everything associated with them.

Meetings are informal with refreshments and chance to meet the speaker and socialise with other members and guests, perhaps learning something new in the show and tell section.

In April Rita Fisk was welcome back to talk about machine embroidery with hand-embellished work. Blending hand and machine embroidery with appliqué and using a variety of fabrics and threads she combines human figures and their surroundings in a miscellany of natural and man made images.

Explaining how she formed her ideas from photographs and sketches and how she then pulled them together Rita showed the finished products with lots of other interesting examples of her fine work and the original ideal behind them.

On May 12 Adrienne Howells will be talking on it all began with the Wars of the Roses. She runs workshops on all forms of embroidery and collects old needlework books, sewing tools and accessories. Adrienne will tell how she started embroidery and show some of her collection of related artefacts.

Guests are always welcome with a small fee of just £4, so if you are interested just go along or call Gill Wright on 07831 733652 for more details.
