THERE are a number of people in Bridgwater and the surrounding area who are unable to get to the library for themselves due to disability, an illness, or because of providing care for someone. The Home Library Service is available free of charge for all ages for those in Somerset who cannot easily access a library. Volunteers provide a regular delivery of books and talking books directly to the individual's home.
Working with the WRVS to recruit volunteers will enable Somerset County Council's libraries to enhance the service they offer to their homebound users and help keep them at the heart of the community. Volunteers working alongside library staff make for a strong partnership as most volunteers are looking to help other people and love the chance to give something back to the libraries that have served them so well.
Volunteers have so much to offer and often say helping out in the community enriches their lives. Their services are much appreciated by the WRVS and the library service, but most of all by the people they provide with library materials and much-needed social contact.
