THE Friends of Coleridge will be hosting a special free guided walk to celebrate the poet's finest works written on the Quantocks.
The walk takes place on Saturday, October 15, at noon outside Coleridge Cottage, Nether Stowey.
In 1797 Coleridge and Wordsworth were living in the Quantocks, meeting and walking every day. It was here that Coleridge wrote his most famous poems – Kubla Khan and The Ancient Mariner – and it was here that Wordsworth and Coleridge collaborated to write Lyrical Ballads, the ground-breaking book of poetry that ushered in the Romantic Movement.
Come on the Friends of Coleridge’s Quantock Hills Guided Walk and enjoy the glorious scenery that the poets loved so much. There will be readings and insights into the Quantock countryside as Coleridge and Wordsworth knew it and the area’s natural history.
The walk is hosted by Terence Sackett and Ian Enters from the Friends of Coleridge and naturalist Nigel Phillips. The walk will be about 6 miles long. There is no charge for the walk, but do ring 01278 733660 or 01278 732611 to book your place, or email tsackett@btinternet.com.
