STUDENTS at Haygrove School met with Mary Hancock, the vice- CEO of the local charity the Somerset Community Foundation, to donate a cheque worth £1,000.
Mrs Hancock came to the school to thank them for their fund-raising efforts, for which the money will go to the charity’s flood appeal fund.
Phoebe Lane, a member of the school’s student fundraising committee, said: “We really wanted to do something to help local people whose homes have been ruined by the floodwater and so we decided to run a non-uniform day.
“All the money was raised by asking students to donate £1 for the privilege of not wearing their own clothes to school.”
Mrs Hancock said: “It was wonderful to be invited to meet Haygrove’s young fundraisers.
“We are delighted that they were able to raise such a wonderful amount to help those in Somerset who have been affected by the recent flooding.”
